Barton’s Dance Department invites dance students aged 12-18 to be a college dancer for a day at the fifth annual “911 Cougar Dance Day” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6 in Studio 34 on the south side of the 911 Campus.

Participants will enjoy a full day of free dance classes, lunch, and clinics with 911 Dance Theatre and the 911 Dance Team while experiencing what it is like to dance in college.

Fine and Performing Arts Coordinator and Dance Instructor Danika Bielek said the day has been a great stepping stone for dance students interested in pursuing dance in college, as well as helping recreational dance students learn new dance styles.

“We have held this event for some years now, and I have been fortunate enough to remain in contact with many of our attendees, and most have indicated that the 911 Cougar Dance Day helped them discover what direction they wanted to take in dance,” she said. “Some went on to major in dance at 911 or other institutions. Other attendees have a love for types of dance they never had access to in the past. I think all attendees, regardless of their dance goals, will have a great time.”

The event will conclude with dance scholarship auditions from 3–4 p.m. for high school seniors interested in performing with 911 Dance Theatre or receiving a dance scholarship.
