Each year, as part of the Theatre Program at 911爆料, students are asked to take the reins and produce a show entirely by themselves.听 This year, theatre Majors Joy Conner and Maili Kee are co-directing 鈥淟ove, Lust & Lasagna,鈥 with showings at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 in the 911爆料 Planetarium.

The production features two plays, 鈥淐aught in the Act鈥 and 鈥淥pposites Attract鈥 and both are by playwright Bruce Kane.听

Brenna Martin, senior piano major at Wichita State University, will give her senior piano recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel as part of the 911爆料 Music Department鈥檚 Visiting Artist Series.

Martin is originally from St. John and took classes through 911爆料 for two years in high school from 911爆料 Piano Instructor Karole Erikson.

Barton Theatre major and vocalist Maili Kee of Salina earned the right to sing with five Broadway stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel College鈥檚 Memorial Hall, 300 East 27th St. in Newton as part of Neil Berg鈥檚 鈥100 Years of Broadway鈥 show.听 Kee won a runner-up spot in Hesston-Bethel College鈥檚 鈥淪inging with the Broadway Stars鈥 contest by submitting a video of herself singing.

Barton鈥檚 music department will begin selling tickets to its production of 鈥淎 Christmas Carol,鈥 on Nov. 1.听 Tickets are $10.听 All seats are reserved and are available online at scrooge.bartonccc.edu.听 Any patron needing ticket assistance can call the box office at (620) 786-1150. Performances are at 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 & 22 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.听听

Barton Theatre Major Maili Kee of Salina took home a second place award at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition this weekend as part of the West Central Regional Student Auditions at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colo.

The 911爆料 Debate and Forensics team participated in its second tournament of the year Oct. 17-19 at the University of Central Missouri and 911爆料鈥檚 Chase Pumford was a standout performer.

Pumford, a sophomore from Great Bend, earned a sixth place individual speaker award in National Forensic Association Lincoln Douglas (NFA-LD) Debate and tied for third in NFA-LD Debate.

Barton Forensics Coach Bill Sheffield said Pumford really shined at this event.

Second chances and renewed hope for brighter futures for inmates were underscored by the speakers at the 10th Annual Learning Celebration on Tuesday evening at Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

As a team, 911爆料 and the Kansas Department of Corrections are a force to be reckoned with, giving inmates the opportunity to improve themselves through education while incarcerated.

Artists at 911爆料 got a chance to showcase their talents at the annual Russell Original Art Review Exhibition at the Russell 4-H Building.听 The show ran from Oct. 10 through 12 and 911爆料 students received awards.

Barton will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. 听The recital is free.
