Mike Johnson, local business owner and 911爆料 Board of Trustees Chair, has been recognized with the Western Regional Trustee Leadership Award via the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), a national organization.

Johnson was nominated by his fellow board members and contended with nominees from 10 other states and a large portion of Canada to receive the Western Region honor.

The 911爆料 Theatre Department will present 鈥淭he Contrast鈥, a musical comedy, at 8 p.m. July 25 at the Great Bend Downtown Bandshell in Jack Kilby Square. The play is free but donations are welcome.

Tickets for the 911爆料 Foundation鈥檚 39th Annual Big Benefit Auction themed 鈥淯nder the Sea鈥 on Aug.听26 are available July 17 until Aug. 14. Tickets are $45 each or $360 per table of eight. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Great Bend Columbus Club with bidding on the silent auction and complimentary beer available until 8 p.m. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. and the live auction will begin promptly at 8 p.m. No one under 21 admitted.

The 911爆料 Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs. This month鈥檚 focus was on 鈥淪trategic Planning,鈥 which deals primarily with ensuring the college operations and budget are in line with the priorities identified by the board, which are to Drive Student Success, Cultivate Community Engagement, Optimize Employee Experience and Emphasize Institutional Effectiveness.

Barton will offer transitioning Fort Carson Soldiers a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants. The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends.

The next course is set from July 10-21 at 1638 Elwell Street, Building 6236, Fort Carson, Colo.

Barton welding instructor Allan Collins, who works with inmates at Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) via the Building Academic Skills In Correctional Settings (BASICS) program, was named the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Outstanding Contract Employee of the Year for the Ellsworth facility. He received a certificate and shook Gov. Sam Brownback鈥檚 hand Wednesday morning at the Capitol Building in Topeka.
