Barton at Fort Leavenworth celebrated the graduation of 27 students on Wednesday at the Lewis and Clark Center at Fort Leavenworth. Of those graduating, 25 chose to walk. The ceremony was in conjunction with other schools who are members of the consortium in the Fort Leavenworth Education Center.
Graduates and their friends and families gathered in the conference center and heard from commencement speaker Maj. Gen. Christopher P. Hughes.

The phone has been ringing off the hook in the Admission office at 911±¬ÁÏ regarding information about the new Commercial Driver’s License offerings.
After 10 hours in the classroom and 30-35 hours of driving time, completers will have training necessary to obtain a Class A license with an air brake endorsement.

The Kansas Association of Community College Trustees (KACCT) and the colleges’ presidents gathered for its quarterly meeting Friday and Saturday on the campus of 911±¬ÁÏ.
Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman, President of the Council of Presidents Executive Committee, said the elected officials and administrators convened to address declining state funding support, which is further hampering the commitment of community colleges to offer economic development and workforce training opportunities.

The Beta Phi Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa from 911±¬ÁÏ at Fort Leavenworth held a successful food and needs drive to support the Leavenworth Mission Community Store and Food Bank in May.Ìý
This was the second drive the chapter has held in 2015.Ìý The most recent drive ran from May 11-May 21 and volunteers were able to collect 382 items.Ìý This surpasses the amount from the previous drive by about 65 percent.Ìý

Barton has narrowed its pool of candidates for Vice President of Instruction and Student Services to three individuals.
Public forums will be held for each candidate on the 911±¬ÁÏ Fort Riley campus and a live stream will be available online for forums held on the 911±¬ÁÏ County campus.

Barton will offer citizenship classes from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Tuesday, June 9 at the Center for Adult Education 1025 Main St., Great Bend in room 208.

Barton and Ottawa University in Ottawa have started a partnership by signing a transfer agreement on May 13.
Brance Barnard’s shop, Barnard Tire & Automotive, at 202 N. Main St. in Hoisington specializes in automotive wheel alignments, tires, oil changes, brakes, suspension service, tune-ups, computer diagnostics and more.Ìý Barnard is a 911±¬ÁÏ Auto Tech graduate and has been operating a successful business since January.
