Barton and Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF) received recognition for their innovative and progressive cooperative efforts to reduce recidivism of inmates via education at a press conference Wednesday afternoon at ECF.

The Governor thanked the college for their efforts in providing inmates with opportunities to become productive members of society.

Public invited to Jack Kilby Science Day keynote: NASA鈥檚 Raphael Grau

For the first time, the public is invited to attend the keynote speech for the 12th annual Jack Kilby Science Day at 9 a.m. October 15 in the Fine Arts Building at 911爆料.

Raphael Grau, Acting Manager of External Integration for the International Space Station Program, has agreed to serve as keynote.

Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility (LCMHF) has been home to Xavier Rodriguez for more than two years. Like more than 90 percent of offenders, Rodriguez will eventually be released back into society. Questions then remain, 鈥淚s he changed? Can he 鈥榤ake it鈥 without resorting to criminal activity?鈥 According to Justice.gov, he would have a 30 percent chance of landing back in prison within six months.

The 911爆料 Visual and Performing Arts Department will host its annual Sneak Preview Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The event will feature performances by the Hilltop Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Band and Prairie Winds Concert Band.

Director of Chorale Activities Vern Fryberger said the concert has a diverse range of selections and showcases all of the different types of ensembles at 911爆料.

Several of 911爆料鈥檚 faculty and staff members submitted work to the Kansas State Fair in the Professional Art and Photography Division.

Barton Art Instructor Steve Dudek was awarded a third place for his watercolor called 鈥淕olden Koi,鈥 of Japanese Koi fish.

Director of Student Life Diane Engle, who is also a 911爆料 watercolor student, was awarded a Kansas State Fair Merit award for her watercolor painting 鈥淭he Black Pearl.鈥

Paige Crocker, freshman in theatre education, has known her destiny since seventh grade.

鈥淚 auditioned for my first show and I was hooked,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 just love the raw emotion I feel while acting. I felt like I could both be more myself and be another person, and I could make the audience believe and wonder鈥 and make them dream.鈥

Crocker says she considers herself seasoned, but she said her role in 鈥淕oing to See the Elephant鈥 has been a fresh experience and a new challenge.

Labor Day in the U.S. marks the official end of summer and a transition to more indoor activities. For many it means things are slowing down a bit and thoughts start to turn towards the holiday season. While that may be true for much of the country, for those in Kansas agriculture, and depending on the weather, it鈥檚 just another day in the office.听
